US OPEN Qualies: Jovana wins opener
Jovana advanced to the second round of the US Open qualifying competition on Tuesday with a gutsy 6-3 3-6 6-3 victory over China’s Jing Jing Lu.
Jovana admitted that she was hampered by nerves in her first match at Flushing Meadows, but she steadied the ship after dropping the second set and secured victory in 1h and 40 mins.
“I was feeling very nervous honestly,” said Jovana. “I love being here so I think the pressure got to me! It’s always tough to play your first match on the tournament, I didn’t know her from earlier so that was also tricky. I was struggling with my serve the whole match which wasn’t helping my situation either but the moment I calmed down I knew I could play my best tennis and that’s what I did at the end of the match.”
Jovana will next face Nadia Podoroska of Argentina on Thursday.
