Saguenay: Jovana falls in opener
Jovana was knocked out in the first round of the $50k ITF Pro Circuit event in Saguenay by rising Canadian star Bianca Andreescu.
Jovana, who was the defending champion in Saguenay, came up against an in-form 16-year-old who was won 10 of her last 12 matches.
Andreescu, ranked 414 in the WTA rankings, hit eight aces on her way to completing the 6-4 6-2 upset in one hour and 23 minutes.
Jovana was disappointed not to have put in a better display on a fast indoor court.
“Unfortunately it was a bad day at the office for me,” she said. “I put too much pressure on myself early on and wasn’t able to settle into any kind of rhythm. She is very confident right now and everything was working for her and unfortunately I couldn’t get enough going to trouble her.
“I’m sad that I lost because I really love playing here and the crowd is amazing. Hopefully we can keep winning in the doubles.”
“I have one more tournament in Toronto so I really hope to do well there and finish the season on a positive note.”
