Jovana wins close encounter
Jovana is through to the second round of the Dow Corning Tennis Classic in Midland after a closely contested 6-4 7-6 victory over American Kristie Ahn.
Jovana broke early in the first set and was able to maintain the momentum thanks to a solid display of serving to close out the set 6-4.
The second set was a topsy turvy affair but Jovana remained quietly confident even when trailing and her strong serving – she hit 10 aces – ultimately enabled her to squeeze past the world No.202 and into the second round.
“I was happy with my serve, it wasn’t my best game but I’m happy that I was calm through the whole match and I was using my chances and playing enough when I needed to,” said Jovana.
“My serve was my best shot today I would say, especially in the first set I was feeling so confident on it.”
The Serbian will face the winner of the high-profile clash between Nicole Gibbs and Britain’s Naomi Broady.
“Well first I’ll see who will win tomorrow, I’ll watch their match, they are two different style players but for sure I’ll stick with my game being aggressive.”
