Jovana tastes victory in New York
Jovana is through to the second round of qualifying at the US Open after coming from behind to defeat Ana Vrljic 6-7 6-1 6-1.
The 15th seed made a slow start and trailed her Croatian opponent 5-2 in the first set before she started to find her range. Despite dropping the first set on a tie-break, Jovana did not panic and strong serving allowed her to finish off the match in convincing fashion.
“I wasn’t worrying too much when I went a set down because I know that first-round matches are always tough,” said Jovana. “So I just kept playing point by point and I was thinking about the things I had been working on in practice.”
The Serbian will now face Saisai Zheng of China in the second round.
“It will be the same approach as every match, I’ll try to play my game and just keep on fighting right until the end.”
