Jovana takes quickly to grass
Jovana enjoyed her first victory of the grass-court season with a 6-4 6-4 win over Russia’s Alexandra Panova at the Ricoh Open.
Jovana’s aggressive game was on-song from the beginning on one of her favourite surfaces and she served eight aces on her way to victory over the world No.138 in Holland.
“I love playing on grass because I think it fits my game since I’m playing flat and strong,” she said afterwards. “I’m using my strongest strokes (serve and forehand) the best I can.
“I had only one practice on grass since I arrived yesterday around noon and it’s funny because I practiced with same girl I was playing against today (Panova).
“I was focusing on my serve mainly, keep those games and than staying low on return and waiting for break opportunities which I had at the end and I’m more than happy to say that I was able to use them and get the win at the end!”
Jovana will return to Court 3 in the first match tomorrow where she faces Amra Sadikovic, the world No.149 from Switzerland.
The Serbian added:
“It’s another tough opponent tomorrow, not only because of the game but also because she is one of my best friends. I know her very well we got to play at the end of the last season twice. Big serve and good slice. I’ll just go out there, give my best, fight and enjoy on the court.”
