Jovana sails through in Wimbledon qualies
Jovana is through to the second round of the Wimbledon qualifying competition at Roehampton after an impressive 6-1 6-4 victory over Japan’s Mayo Hibi.
Playing on her favourite surface, Jovana started well and was able to use her aggressive groundstrokes to trouble the serve of world No.166 Hibi.
Jovana was also in firm control of her own service games, being broken only once, and wrapped up victory in 71 minutes.
“I love playing on grass and I was very excited to come to London and compete at Wimbledon again,” said Jovana. “It’s definitely one of my favourite Grand Slams.
“I’m glad that I had one tournament before this event on grass to get ready and feel the grass courts. I played very well today, I knew my opponent from earlier, I played against her two years ago. I knew it won’t be easy, she is tricky, her game fits the grass as well, she is slicing a lot and she has flat hits so I had to be focused and I had to stay low all the time.
“I served very good, lost only one game on my serve, I was also being aggressive all the time because I knew that that is my game and that’s the only way to win. I’m so happy that I managed to play the way I wanted and so happy to get the win today.”
Jovana next faces Maria Sakkari of Greece.
