Jovana Makes Splash Debut in Winnipeg
Jovana enjoyed a successful week in Winnipeg, Canada where she competed in singles and doubles at the $25,000 ITF.
Jovana won 7 of 8 matches overall, capturing her first ITF doubles title (partnering Sharon Fichman) and reaching the semi-finals of singles where she suffered a narrow loss to eventual champion Kristie Ahn (USA).
This was my first experience in Winnipeg and I fall in love with the city since the first moment I landed. Canada is one of my favorite countries and people are so kind and wonderful. The tournament officials were really trying hard to host this combined men’s and women’s event. The club had lots of courts so it made everything much easier for matches and practices.
I reached the semis of singles, where I lost a very tight match 7/5 in the third set. I’m happy to say that I’m back on track and that I can see improvements in my game after a bad period of few months. I’m enjoying my time on the court, and to get a chance to compete and trying to get better every day. I know that by practicing hard I’m closer to reaching my goals every single day.
I also played doubles this tournament which is a bit unusual for me. I played with Sharon Fichman from Canada. I didn’t know her very well before this tournament but she is a great girl and we had so much fun on the court together. We ended up winning a title at the end of the week. From match to match we were playing better and better. Just one more proof that good things are happening when you are having fun :)
I’m back in Vegas now where I’ll practice hard and looking forward to my next tournament in Redding, California.
