Jovana falls to Robson in Guangzhou
Jovana was beaten in the first round of the WTA tournament in Guangzhou, China by No.3 seed and 2012 finalist Laura Robson.
Jovana had qualified for her second WTA main draw event in Guangzhou after battling through two three-set matches in hot and humid conditions. The world No.162 saved match points in her first-round match against China’s Chang Liu, before battling back from one-set down to defeat No.6 seed Tadeja Majeric of Slovenia.
Having spent more than five hours on the court in the qualifying competition, and carrying a right knee injury, it was always going to be a tough challenge against the British No.1. But Jovana did herself proud and gained some valuable experience in a 6-2 6-4 defeat to Robson.
“I’m really pleased with my week in Guangzhou overall,” Jovana said. “I hurt my knee in Sanya so wasn’t sure how well I would be able to move, but I got great treatment from the WTA physios here and was able to fight like crazy on the court and win two matches.”
“It was a tough loss to Robson, but I felt good about my game. There are things I need to improve, but being on the same court as the top girls is the best way for me to do that.”
