Jovana Crowned Champion of Saguenay $50,000 ITF Challenger
Looking to end her 2015 campaign on a high note, Jovana captured her first singles title of the year, and the first $50,000-level tournament of her career, in Saguenay on Sunday.
After falling in last year’s final, Jovana took the extra step this year by defeating Switzerland’s Amra Sadikovic 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1 to capture the fifteenth ITF Challenger singles title of her career, and perhaps the biggest and most impressive to date.
The 22-year-old led 6-3, 4-3 with a break before Sadikovic, who came into the tournament red hot, showed her quality and mounted a comeback to force a third set. Jovana then reversed the momentum by breaking serve with her first opportunity in the final frame and raced to the title.
“This is my first for $50,000 Challenger title and I am just so happy,” a jubilant Jovana said after the match. “This is a huge deal for me because I have had a tough year with injuries and not the results that I hoped for. It’s not only an important moment in my career, but it gives me a lot of confidence for my next tournaments.”
Jovana will remain in Canada where she will see action in Toronto this week at another $50,000-level tournament.
